Liputan6.com, Jakarta: Serangan Tomcat menyebar luas di Surabaya. Korbannya pun sudah mencapai ratusan. Serangga kecil yang bisa meloncat-loncat ini bahkan sudah menyerang ke apartemen mewah.

Seperti apakah Tomcat? Serangga yang disebut Rove Beetle atau "Kumbang Rove" memiliki ukurannya yang cukup kecil, antara 7-8 mm. Serangga kelompok kumbang ini tidak menggigit atau menyengat, tapi darah mereka mengandung racun kuat yang disebut pederin yang dapat menyebabkan iritasi kulit dan mata.

Serangga ini menyerupai kalajengking namun berukuran kecil panjang dengan warna merah belang hitam. Tomcat akan mengeluarkan cairan secara otomatis bila bersentuhan dengan kulit manusia. Kumbang tersebut juga akan mengeluarkan cairan racunnya pada benda-benda seperti baju, handuk, atau benda-benda lainnya.

Jika kumbang melepaskan toksin dan terkena manusia akan diserap kulit dan membentuk luka seperti herpes. Bagian yang luka tengahnya bernanah dengan diameter 2 sentimeter dan terus membesar bila tidak ditanggulangi.

Itu sebabnya, jika sudah terkena dermatitis, otomatis seprei dan handuk maupun alat-alat yang disinyalir terkena racun Tomcat harus dibersihkan. Bersentuhan dengan kumbang ini saat merayap atau tidur, atau memukulnya layaknya membunuh nyamuk atau lalat malah akan menyebabkan iritasi kulit yang serius.

Gejala awal yang muncul berupa kemerahan pada kulit, dan sensasi 'membakar'. Gejala ini diikuti dengan iritasi yang menyakitkan dan gatal-gatal dengan pustula (bintil bernanah) yang meluas dan kulit melepuh setelah 4 hari.

Racun yang terkena tangan juga dapat menyebar ke bagian tubuh lain dan ke orang lain. Hindari menggaruk luka. Racun bisa berpindah ke bagian lain kulit melalui cairan di luka. Jika luka terjadi pada area mata dan selaput lendir, sebaiknya segera ke dokter.

Lalu bagaimana cara menghindari serangan Tomcat? Hindari Tomcat. Cuci kulit Anda jika terkena racun. Kurangi pencahayaan di dalam ruangan saat malam tiba. Kenakan pakaian lengan panjang dan bercelana panjang untuk meminimalkan terkena serangan Tomcat di kulit.

Jika Tomcat tanpa sengaja terkena kulit, segera cuci bagian yang terkena dengan air dan sabun. Pasalnya toksin perlahan menembus kulit. Mencuci kulit sesegera mungkin setelah terkena kumbang tersebut akan membuang banyak racun sebelum mereka memiliki waktu untuk melukai kulit. Kemudian menggunakan kompres dingin, antihistamin, atau memakai lidah buaya untuk meringankan gejala pada daerah yang terkena.

Jakarta, Cosmetics used to beautify or care for themselves. Cosmetics and personal care products are made from many chemicals. Unfortunately some of these chemicals is really evident in the category of hazardous materials. Would actually be pretty sick.

7. Synthetic dyes
Dyes are often included in the label with the color codes and numbers, eg: Red No. 3. Synthetic dyes are often used in cosmetics are like blusher, foundation, nail polish, hair dye and so on. Some dyes are known carcinogens besifat.

8. Paraben
Parabens are a group of materials consisting of materials such as: Methyl, Propyl, Butyl, and Ethyl. Paraben refers to the chemicals that make cosmetic products stay fresh by inhibiting the growth of germs.

Paraben can block UV radiation and is widely used in sunscreens. However, certain types of parabens can irritate the skin. A study in animals showed that parabens can trigger the production of the hormone estrogen, fuel cancer.

9. Formaldehyde
Formaldehyde is widely used in embalming fluids for a variety of fabric softener and even cosmetics. Formaldehyde contained in shampoos, antibacterial cleaners, nail hardeners, and hand-washing liquid product known to cause cancer in humans.

10. Fragrances
Fragrances seem harmless because the manufacturers use it to to disguise unwanted odors. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allows manufacturers to refer to the fragrance material without disclosing details of type of material because the company considered as confidential.

U.S. study found that fragrance products can cause adverse health effects such as headaches, difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, rashes, and loss of consciousness.

Jakarta, Kosmetik digunakan untuk mempercantik atau merawat diri. Kosmetik dan produk perawatan dibuat dari banyak bahan kimia. Sayangnya beberapa bahan kimia di antaranya benar-benar terbukti masuk dalam kategori bahan-bahan yang berbahaya. Mau cantik malah bisa sakit.

Jika bahan-bahan kimianya sah digunakan dan telah diatur agar tidak berbahaya bila digunakan dalam kadar tertentu, maka itu masuk dalam kategori aman. Namun, ada beberapa bahan kimia di kosmetik yang bermasalah dan sebaiknya dihindari bila memungkinkan.

Seperti dilansir belief.com, Rabu (8/2/2012),berikut adalah kesepuluh bahan kimia dalam kosmetik yang sebaiknya dihindari:

1. Methylisothiazoline
Methylisothiazoline (MIT) diduga mempengaruhi komunikasi sel-sel saraf di otak. Bahan ini banyak terkandung dalam shampoo. Badan Perlindungan Lingkungan di AS atau Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) menegaskan bahwa MIT sangat beracun bila digunakan pada kulit atau mata.

Jika bahan ini terkandung dalam insektisida, EPA mewajibkan produsen untuk memberi label peringatan pada kemasannya. EPA juga menerangkan bahwa orang yang terpapar produk methylisothiazoline diharuskan memakai kemeja lengan panjang, celana panjang, sarung tangan tahan kimia, dan sepatu ditambah kaus kaki.

Namun kebanyakan orang percaya bahwa bahan ini aman dan dapat diletakkan di kamar mandi bahkan digunakan untuk mencuci rambutnya.

2. Sodium Lauril Sulfat
Sodium lauril sulfat dan natrium sulfat laureth terkandung dalam banyak produk berbusa, seperti sabun, shampoo, dan bahkan pasta gigi. Zat ini telah disetujui untuk digunakan, tetapi diketahui menyebabkan iritasi kulit.

3. Ftalat
Ftalat digunakan dalam kosmetik, parfum, bahkan produk medis seperti kantong transfusi darah. Ada banyak bahan kimia yang termasuk dalam kategori Ftalat.

Laporan EPA menyebutkan bahwa Ftalat berkaitan dengan ruam, pilek, cacat lahir, kanker, kerusakan hati, gangguan paru-paru, dan kelainan tulang. Sebuah penelitian pada tikus menemukan bahwa paparan berlebihan terhadap bahan kimia ini dapat menyebabkan eksensefali atau pertumbuhan otak di luar tengkorak.

4. Coal tar
Coal tar adalah bahan yang jarang dijumpai, tetapi telah diketahui dapat menyebabkan kanker. Bahan ini terkandung dalam produk pewarna rambut, shampoo ketombe dan beberapa produk anti-gatal.

5. Minyak sulingan atau minyak distilat
Sulingan minyak adalah produk yang dihasilkan oleh industri minyak bumi dan sering digunakan dalam maskara, foundation, lipstik, dan parfum. Minyak sulingan diduga mengandung kotoran dan bersifat karsinogen (dapat menyebabkan kanker).

6. PEG
PEG (polietilen glikol) atau PPG (polipropilena glikol) adalah dua bahan kimia yang terkandung dalam berbagai kosmetik meskipun diketahui berbahaya. Pemerintah mengizinkan bahan-bahan ini dalam kosmetik karena dalam jumlah kecil zat ini dianggap relatif aman.

7. Pewarna sintetis
Pewarna sering dicantumkan dalam label dengan kode warna dan nomor, misalnya: Red No 3. Pewarna sintetis sering digunakan dalam kosmetik seperi pemerah, alas bedak, cat kuku, cat rambut dan sebagainya. Beberapa pewarna diketahui besifat karsinogen.

8. Paraben
Paraben merupakan sekelompok bahan yang terdiri atas bahan seperti: Metil, Propyl, Butil, dan Ethyl. Paraben mengacu pada bahan-bahan kimia yang membuat produk kosmetik tetap segar dengan menghambat pertumbuhan kuman.

Paraben dapat memblokir radiasi UV dan banyak digunakan dalam tabir surya. Namun, paraben jenis tertentu dapat mengiritasi kulit. Sebuah penelitian pada hewan menunjukkan bahwa paraben dapat memicu produksi hormon estrogen, bahan bakar kanker.

9. Formaldehida
Formaldehida banyak digunakan dalam berbagai cairan pembalsem untuk pelembut kain dan bahkan kosmetik. Formaldehida terkandung dalam shampo, pembersih antibakteri, pengeras kuku, dan produk cairan cuci tangan yang dikenal sebagai penyebab kanker pada manusia.

10. Pengharum
Pengharum tampak tidak berbahaya karena produsen menggunakannya untuk untuk menyamarkan bau yang tidak diinginkan. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) di AS mengijinkan produsen untuk menyebut bahan wewangian tanpa mengungkapkan detail jenis bahannya karena diangap sebagai rahasia perusahaan.

Penelitian di AS menemukan bahwa produk pengharum dapat menyebabkan berbagai efek yang merugikan kesehatan seperti sakit kepala, kesulitan bernapas, serangan asma, ruam, dan hilangnya kesadaran.

Bahkan, beberapa bahan pengharum ternyata mengandung bahan-bahan berbahaya yang dilarang oleh undang-undang AS. (pah/ir)
