Tak usah cemas ia bakal cedera atau jadi sok jagoan. Justru dari sini ia belajar disiplin dan patuh. Perkembangan motoriknya pun makin baik.

Mendengar kata "beladiri", boleh jadi yang terbayang di benak kita adalah kekerasan yang melibatkan adu fisik. Tak heran jika banyak orang tua "alergi" terhadap cabang olahraga yang satu ini. Jangankan untuk si kecil yang balita, anaknya yang sudah besar pun kalau bisa akan dicegah agar jangan sampai masuk klub beladiri.

Namun apa yang terjadi di luar? Belakangan ini malah marak berdiri klub beladiri khusus balita. Bahkan, taman bermain dan preschool pun banyak yang memasukkan beladiri sebagai salah satu kegiatan ekstrakurikuler. Nah, bila di "sekolah" si kecil ada kegiatan tersebut, bukan tak mungkin ia akan ngotot ikut. Sementara kita khawatir si kecil bakal cedera atau malah kelak jadi tukang berantem.


Memang, beladiri termasuk jenis olahraga combattive sport. Artinya, olahraga pertarungan yang melibatkan full body contact. Olahraga ini melibatkan kontak fisik dengan orang lain yang dipandang menimbulkan ancaman, lalu menyerang. Olahraga beladiri banyak jenisnya, kebanyakan berasal dari Asia Timur, yaitu Jepang dan Korea. Ada pula yang berasal dari Indonesia asli seperti pencak silat.

Namun di balik tonjokan dan tendangannya, beladiri juga mengandung disiplin, patuh, dan menonjolkan sifat kependekaran yang mengutamakan moral. "Jadi, beladiri bukan menyerang tapi mempertahankan diri, bukan sengaja memamerkan kepandaian menendang dan meninju," kata Drs. Andre Tuwaidan, pelatih beladiri taekwondo untuk balita. Lagi pula, tambahnya, beladiri untuk balita yang ditekankan lebih pada unsur olahraganya, bukan beladirinya.

"Teknik menendang, lompatan, dan tonjokan yang diajarkan pada balita juga sangat berbeda dengan orang dewasa." "Nah, dengan ikut latihan beladiri, anak belajar teknik menendang dan melompat yang benar, hingga kemungkinan ia cedera akibat meniru gerakan-gerakan si tokoh dapat diminimalisir," bilang Andre.

Namun dalam mengajarkannya, Monty menyarankan agar pelatih beladiri juga memperbanyak unsur bermain dan mengembangkan aspek sosialisasi anak. "Dunia anak adalah dunia bermain. Kegiatan apa pun yang kita berikan kepadanya, sebaiknya tak meninggalkan pola bermain. Anak-anak berkumpul bersama teman sebaya lainnya dan harus having fun dengan kegiatannya," jelas dekan Fakultas Psikologi Universitas Tarumanagara ini kala ditemui pada kesempatan berbeda.

Monty juga menyarankan agar pengajaran yang diberikan pertama adalah kesehatan dan kebugaran. "Anak diberi latihan-latihan yang bisa membantu pertumbuhan psikomotorik dan menunjang kesehatannya." Setelah itu barulah moral sedikit demi sedikit diajarkan melalui penanaman disiplin. "Sifat kependekaran pelan-pelan ditumbuhkan seperti tak menyerang lebih dulu, berani mengakui kelemahan, dan sifat-sifat kependekaran lain yang menjunjung moral dan disiplin."


Hanya, Monty tak setuju bila dalam pengajaran itu, anak dikenalkan pada konsep musuh. "Siapa itu musuh dan wujudnya kayak apa, masih terlalu dini untuk dikenalkan pada anak balita." Lagi pula, di usia prasekolah, aspek utamanya adalah to grow, berkembang."Nah, tumbuh saja dia belum, kok, sudah disuruh bertahan, defending yourself. Dengan pemahaman bahwa konsentrasi dan kombinasi lompatan yang bagus akan menghasilkan keberhasilan "menyelamatkan" diri dari suatu "serangan" yang membahayakan. "Di klub-klub yang baik, anak tak akan dihadapkan dengan temannya sebagai lawan tanding, meski hanya untuk latihan sekalipun."

Monty setuju. "Kalau sudah menggunakan teman sebagai lawan tanding, berarti sudah mengarah pada unsur combatting daripada olahraganya," tegasnya, Lagi pula, bila anak sudah diajarkan bertarung melawan teman pada usia yang masih dini, maka secara tak sadar akan terbentuk konsep predator pada dirinya, yaitu mahluk yang suka menaklukkan temannya sendiri. "Anak-anak, kan, bukan predator, tapi human being. Jadi, bila kita ingin anak-anak punya sikap human being, manusiakanlah anak-anak dari segi moralnya, bukan malah diajarkan melawan sesama human being."

Andre pun sependapat. "Namanya saja olahraga beladiri, self defense, bukan attacking others. Sifat kesatria beladiri itu, kan, dia melawan kalau diserang, bukan menyerang lebih dulu untuk menunjukkan kejagoannya. Bahkan sedapat mungkin menghindari perkelahian."


Tentunya, dengan belajar beladiri, anak juga mengembangkan sense of awareness. Dia jadi punya sikap waspada terhadap lingkungan sekitar yang bisa mengancam. Mengacu pada literatur psikologi perilaku anak dari Jerry Wykoff, Barbara C. Unell dan Dorothy Law Nolte, anak-anak usia 4 tahun ke atas perlu diajarkan mengenal dan mempunyai ketrampilan sendiri untuk menghadapi bahaya yang disebut knowledge of sense of awareness. Meski kita tak mengharapkan si kecil menghadapi keadaan bahaya, tapi penanaman sikap waspada bisa membantunya merasakan hal-hal yang perlu diwaspadai atau mengundang bahaya.

Nah, pada olahraga beladiri, khususnya taekwondo, bilang Andre, sense of awareness diajarkan lewat metode Crocodile Attack tadi. Ada "buaya" yang mengancam dan harus dilawan. "Karena konsep musuh belum dikenal di usia prasekolah, maka situasi bahaya itu digambarkan lewat buaya sebagai perumpamaan bad guy yang harus dilawan," terangnya.

Namun, Monty mengingatkan, jangan sampai salah mengajarkan analisa bahaya pada anak. "Kalau sampai salah, hati-hati, anak bisa berkembang jadi paranoid, memandang setiap orang dengan curiga." Jadi, tegasnya, pola pengajaran sense of awareness harus hati-hati betul agar tak berlebihan dan menjadikan anak paranoid. "Ancaman dalam kehidupan memang besar, tapi anak jangan ditakuti-takuti. Sikap waspada harus dikembangkan secara bijak. Beladiri bisa menjadi suatu bagian untuk menghadapi tantangan di dalam hidup, tapi kapan ilmunya harus dikeluarkan, harus secara bijak diajarkan. Ingat, pada usia balita, keselamatan anak menjadi tanggungan orang tua sepenuhnya." Artinya, sikap waspada bisa diajarkan, tapi keselamatan anak tetap menjadi tanggung jawab orang tua.


Nah Bu-Pak, gimana? Sekarang tak khawatir lagi, kan, bila si kecil ikut beladiri? Saran Monty, cari klub yang arahnya lebih pada pembentukan kesehatan dan bermanfaat bagi perkembangan psikomotorik anak. "Cari klub yang tulisannya Klub Olahraga Beladiri Balita, bukan Klub Beladiri Balita. Ini menunjukkan klub itu memberi tekanan pada olahraganya, bukan beladirinya." Selain itu, pelatihnya juga harus tahu perkembangan fisik dan psikologi anak, maupun sturuktur pertumbuhan anak.

Namun, hendaknya kita jangan hanya terpaku pada olahraga beladiri semata. "Boleh-boleh saja memasukkan anak ke klub tapi tak perlu tiap hari. Diselang-selinglah dengan jenis olahraga lain seperti berenang atau jalan kaki," kata Monty. Tujuannya, agar si kecil juga mengenal beragam jenis olahraga.

Yang Harus Diperhatikan

* Pilih jenis olahraga beladiri yang tak menggunakan alat tapi lebih mengandalkan gerakan seperti lompatan dan tendangan. Misal, taekwondo atau olahraga beladiri modern lainnya.

* Anak dengan postur tubuh apa pun dapat mengikuti olahraga beladiri. Namun bila si kecil punya penyakit tertentu semisal asma atau jantung, beritahu instrukturnya agar porsi latihan atau gerakan-gerakannya tak membahayakan si kecil.

* Klub olahraga beladiri balita yang baik, yaitu:

- Membolehkan anak ikut di kelas untuk beberapa waktu tanpa bergabung sebagai anggota lebih dulu. Setelah anak betul-betul berminat, barulah didaftarkan ke klub tersebut. Jadi, bila si kecil tak berminat, kita tak boleh memaksakannya.

- Instrukturnya memiliki sertifikat dan punya pengetahuan khusus mengenai psikologi maupun pertumbuhan fisik anak. Terutama pengetahuan tentang pertumbuhan fisik anak amat penting, agar instruktur dapat mengetahui intensitas dan kekuatan tendangan serta lompatan pada anak, hingga tak mencederai tungkai maupun otot-otot kaki anak yang sedang tumbuh.

- Dilengkapi P3K dan instrukturnya memiliki pengetahuan tentang keadaan darurat seperti anak terjatuh.

- Tak menggunakan sistem hukuman. Anak memang harus disiplin dan patuh mengikuti instruksi, tapi bila anak melakukan kesalahan tak ada punishment apa pun yang diterapkan.

- Tak mengenal kenaikan tingkat untuk menghindari kecemburuan yang kerap terjadi pada anak-anak balita.

* Untuk menghindari kemungkinan si kecil cedera saat mempraktekkan teknik tendangan/lompatan di rumah, sebaiknya orang tua hadir selama anak latihan. Dengan begitu, orang tua bisa melihat teknik yang benar yang diajarkan dan membetulkannya kala anak mempraktekkannya di rumah.

Sangat Bermanfaat Buat Si Upik

Tak usah takut si Upik bakal jadi tomboi ataupun perempuan sok jagoan. Malah, bila si Upik amat berminat dengan olahraga ini, bisa diteruskan hingga usia sekolah.
